FireBug Live Saguaro Man meets the Salton Sea
About The Event – From The Event Organizer
Bombay Beach Arts and Culture Center invites you to join us on October 18th-20th for an all ages weekend campout and the first event of the 2019/2020 season.
We are excited to have you as our guests and have planned an exciting and fun filled weekend for you all with visiting artists, talks and workshops, outdoor activities, food, music, and more.
What’s happening?
We will be collaborating with our neighbors from the Copper State, Arizona Artistic Conflagators, and thanks to their generous grant for the Community Bike Program and Art Tour Experience, we will be installing a permanent art sculpture piece by Arizona based artist Royce Carlson. You may know Royce from his work on the DaVinci Flying Fish Sculpture that is also now a permanent art piece in our outdoor art garden at #BBAC.
Arizona Burners Without Borders will also be joining forces with Burners Without Borders Los Angeles to launch the Community Bike Program and Art Tour for the new season. We will be working on cleaning, prepping, and tuning the bikes so they are ready for you all to enjoy over the weekend here in Bombay Beach.
The Walter Hive, which promotes empowerment through creative expression in art and technology, will be onsite and doing a series of workshops and programs lead by Ryan McDermott that include LED Designs, laser cut design/build, 3D printing, welding, and other art activity workshops. The Walter Hive is a collective of artists based out of Scottsdale, AZ and with a universal motto to express yourself, unbox the universe, and just be nice.
We will have plenty of activities and art programming for the kids when the Saguaro Man Kids Camp and the Black Rock Explorers invade Bombay. We will be doing live screen printing, stencil painting with aerosol textile paints, various art workshops, and if you are curious how a sea came to be in the middle of the California desert? Learn about the Salton Sea’s history and create your own art piece using salt and water colors with Arizona guest artist Morgan Winburn.
We still have more and were not done yet….
We are planning an early evening inaugural bike ride through the town as part of the official launch of the community bike program. Get dressed up in a fun onesie or other costume of your choosing and ride through town and down to the beach while exploring art and other interesting things in the area. We have 50 brand new cruisers for you to use and it will be quite a spectacle as we peddle our way around town so don’t miss it.
When we return we are going to fire up the outdoor pizza ovens then play movies on the big screen under the stars, and under the fish!?!, while we campout and have bonfires in the art garden. There will be camping allowed on site at BBAC for the weekend so please bring a tent and other gear and plan on staying with us for the weekend. Its going to be a blast and lots to do and see so come prepared and have some fun.
Our official DJ and friend of BBAC, DJ Kim Faith, will be here throughout the weekend playing music and setting the vibe. Dance and listen to the magical sounds of DJ Kim Faith during the day and later Saturday night at the 21+ after party at the world famous Ski Inn.
And if we all make it to Sunday let’s do a pancake Happy Hour! Pancakes, bacon, and fresh roasted coffee and specialty coffee drinks from our onsite coffee bar in the morning!?! Donations of bacon are always appreciated and accepted. Remember, too much bacon is never enough!
The Campout!
We will allow for 10 to 15 tents (depending on the size) to be set up on site in the art garden and sleeping spaces near the Art Barn as well. We are asking for a suggested donation of $25 per person for the entire weekend or $15 per person per day for shortened time . If you want to stay in your “home on wheels” in the parking lot we ask for a suggested donation of $10 a day per person or $30 for the entire weekend. 100% of these funds go towards the bicycle program and the programming costs for the new 2019/2020 season. You will have 24/7 access to two full onsite bathrooms and showers!
*We ask that you respect the space by enacting the principles of LEAVE NO TRACE and RADICAL SELF RELIANCE. In other words please pick up after yourself and bring all the things to survive as if you were camping.

The Bombay Beach Community Bike Program and Art Tour Experience is a free community based yellow bike program and tour of art installations and iconic destinations or points of interest in Bombay Beach. The idea and concept was initially conceived last summer as a healthy and fun way to engage residents and visitors of Bombay Beach to learn more about the history of the town and see the many iconic destinations or points of interest and art installations around town.
This year with the support of the Burning Man Project and the Yellow Bike Program we were able to bring back 50 new Huffy Cranbrook Cruisers that were generously donated for the Bombay Beach Community Bike Program and Art Tour Experience. These bicycles will be available to you and the residents and visitors of Bombay Beach to use at No Cost as part of this new program that we will host at our arts and culture center in the heart of Bombay Beach.
We are now currently trying to raise money in order to buy materials to create 10 bike stations. These bike stations will be strategically placed around town and provide central destination spots to ride too and visit while parking and securing your bike for exploration by foot. The stations will be artistically designed and made of steel and permanently installed with concrete. Each of the 10 stations will have a unique symbol on the top of it that represents one of the 10 principles and explains its meaning.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT. WE LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU KNOW AND YOU ARE MAKING THIS ALL POSSIBLE. COME TO BOMBAY BEACH!!!
